Definition:


Blended diet is the diet made from any other meal (table food) that is put inside a blender to ground or blended smoothly to puree or full liquid of soft diet. Choose a food or whole meal and blend it by adding clean pure water for easily blending to produce another form of diet. Example a breakfast of sweet potatoes boiled, egg source, avocado, will be blended together to produce full liquid diet or puree for some one who cant chew or  added more water into the tube feeding. A blended diet is the diet that includes real foods that is blended into puree (soft diet).


What Are The Purpose For Blending Diet?


  • Blended foods are easily to swallow.
  • Blended foods are easily to digest.
  • The efficiency of the food increases more after blending the foods.
  • Releasing the nutrients that may pass through the (G.I.T) untouched by broken cell walls.
  • Blended diet can be thin with a more added liquid  that it can pass through a straw fo some one to sip.
  • It can be taken as foods or drinks other than water.

What Are The Foods Allowed In Blended Diet?


Foods that can be blend which includes fruits such as banana, apples, pears, avocado, pawpaw, water melon. And also vegetables such as green peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, pumpkin leaves, spinach, white potatoes. And meats such as poultry (chicken, turkey), beef etc.


What Conditions/Disease Are Recommended For Blended Diet?


  • Blended diets are recommended for people who cant chew their foods, to get enough nutrients to meet up their recommended intake, Diseases such as dental caries, scurvy, gingivitis, tumor of the mouth etc.
  • Blended diet may improve the symptoms of diarrhea patients.
  • Blended diet may be give to manage the symptoms of a constipation patient.
  • Blended diet may improve growth and stop vomiting.
  • It helps in improving and detecting the symptoms in children who have had gastrointestinal surgery such as intestinal perforation. 
  • It is administered to children over one year old. It is not allowed for under 1 year old to take as they are still breastfeeding or taking infant formula so it is not recommended before one year.
  • When there is needed for G-tube, A blended diet is typically fed to the stomach using G-tube, blended diet are usually thicker than formula's.

What Are The Foods Disallowed In Blended Diet?



Avoid foods with tough skin or hull, they can get trapped in the wires. Avoid hard nuts, seeds, whole grain or bran cereals and starched. 
  • Avoid snacks foods like pop corn and chocolates.
  • Tough protein, such as tough meat bacon, sausages etc.
  • High fiber whole grain.
  • Stringy fruits with hard skin should be avoided.
  • Very hard raw vegetables should be avoided.
