Nutrients are chemical compounds found in foods that are used by the body to function on all aspects of the body and grow. Nutrient are very necessary for the body of all living organism. They are used by an organism to survive, grow and to produce and carry out all biological activities.

Nutrients are compounds found in food there are two major classes:

1.       Macro nutrients: - Carbohydrate, Protein, Fat and oil

2.       Micro nutrients: - Vitamins and Minerals.


MACRO NUTRIENTS: Are the nutrients needed in large amount by the body they are use in large amount compare to Micro nutrients. They are the nutritive components of foods that the body needs for energy for structural and system maintenance and to remain healthy. They help to prevent disease and allow the body to function correctly. Marco nutrient are widely spread and available in many foods sources. Most of the calories comes from macro Nutrients has its own sources, benefits and purpose in maintaining a healthy body.

The amount needed by individuals varies according to the person’s recommended intake based on individual age, weight, pre exiting health condition, level of physical activities, income and availability of the sources of Marco nutrients in the person’s community. Macro nutrient are carbohydrate, protein and fats.

Carbohydrates yields 4 kilocalories per 1 gram, protein yields 4 kilocalories per 1 gram and fat fields the most kilocalories per 1 grams which is 9 kilo calories. Macro nutrients are very important to the body as each one plays a very vital role to keep the body and whole system healthy if taken according to requirement.
