Menu Plan: Menu plan can be define as a written note of different food and ingredient which are quantified to make a complete meal. Menu plan depend on the types and the reasons of the meal to be produce the menu can be therapeutic menu, canteen menu, institutional menu and ordinary home menu. But nutritionist and dietitians centered on therapeutic menu.


Therapeutic Menu: Therapeutic menu can be defined as a menu plan of a particular diet for managing, treating or preventing a disease, disorders or conditions of an individual or group of people. Therapeutic menu is use to produce a special diets, the menu must constitute all the ingredient needed to produce such diet in their quantity form (quantifying). A therapeutic menu must meet up with the target nutrients needed and target nutrients to avoid also the target foods needed and target food to avoid. All foods and ingredients must be quantified, formulated, modified and calculated in the menu before producing such diet. The menu must be identify and name before planning it.

Points To Consider Before Planning Therapeutic Menu:

  1. The diseases, condition or disorder
  2. Duration of the diseases, disorder or condition.
  3. Age, weight, height and gender.
  4. Food allowed and food dis-allowed.
  5. Nutrients allowed and nutrients dis-allowed.
  6. level of physical activities.
  7. Allergy and intolerance to certain foods and nutrients.
  8. Availability and affordability of foods.
  9. Dietary history, nutritional status, economic status and geographical location.
  10. All the six food list (bread, milk, fat, meat, vegetables, and fruits).
