What Is Calcium?

Calcium is a micro nutrients  needed in for strong bones, muscles and teeth formation in children and grownups the recommended intake of calcium for babies is 200mg daily and toddlers 1 to 3 years needs 300mg daily to meet up their calcium intake. Children needs full liquid diets or soft diets for easy swallowing , digestion and absorption of foods.

What Are The Common Foods Found In Our Locality That Are Good Sources Of Calcium?

  • Eggs 🥚

  • Milk 🥛

  • legumes: such as beans, lentils, peas, soybeans, Bambara nuts, groundnut, cashew nut, walnut, almond and seeds such as sesame seed. 


Different Types Of Simple Home Recipe For Children To Meet Up Their Calcium Intake

  • 1cup of milk, 1/4 cup chocolate, 1/2 small banana.

  • 1 cup of millet pap, 1/2 cup of milk, 1 table spoon groundnut paste and 1/2 banana.

  • 1 cup of soya beans milk, 1 small banana 🍌.

  • 1 cup of yogurt, 1/2 pawpaw ,1 date,1 table spoon olive oil.

  • 1/4 cup sesame seed milk,1cup millet pap,1 table spoon Olive oil.

  • Boiled meat broth, 1 cup pap, 1/4 cup milk, 1 teaspoon olive oil.

  • 1 cup of yogurt, 1 tablespoon groundnut paste.

  • 1 cup of pap ,1 tea spoon crayfish, 1 /2 teaspoon of Palm oil,and 1 table spoon milk.

  • 1 cup of millet pap, 1 table spoon dried fish grounded, 1 teaspoon soya beans flour and 1/2 cup banana.

  • 1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup pawpaw, 2 dates, 1 teaspoon olive oil.

  • 1 egg mixed with raw pap paste to produce cooked pap, 2 tablespoon milk, and 1 teaspoon olive oil.

  • 1 cup of pap, 1/2 cup avocado, 2 table spoon milk.

  • You can add sesame seed roasted and grounded a table spoon in his pap.

  • Children should be allowed to play under the sun 🌞 for five to ten minutes for the absorption of vitamin D, in order to boost calcium absorption in the G.I.T system.


What Do You Mean By Enrich Pap? 

Enrich pap that is produced from cereals and other ingredients are added to it to boost the protein and micro nutrients. This is done to prevent or manage one or more deficiency disease or condition. Examples of enriched pap to meet up calcium intake in children are.

Rice Pap: 

  1. 200gms of white rice 🍚.
  2. 50gms of sesame seed and 50gms soya beans. 

Procedure: 

mix all ingredients together and dry mill to flour.

Use the mixture for enriched pap for children and adults who needs it.


Miller Pap:

  • 250gms of dehulled millet.
  • 100gms roasted unsalted groundnut.
  • 50gms roasted soya beans and 25 grams crayfish.
  • Mix ingredients and dry mill to form flour .
  • Use as enrich pap for children and people that needs it.

Sorghum Pap: 

  • 250 grams dehulled sorghum.
  • 100grams roasted soybeans.
  • 100 grams dehulled millet.
  • 50 grams  roasted unsalted groundnut. 
  • Mix the ingredients and dry mill to form flour .

Note: Dehulled cereals to reduce shaft if enrich pap will be given to children under 3 years.
