What Is Pelvic Infections Disease?

Pelvic infection disease (PID) is a disease caused by bacterial infection that moves from the vagina or the cervix to the inner reproductive organs. It most often occurs when sexual transmitted bacteria enters the female vagina. If PID is not diagnose early and treated it can develops into more serious and complicates the case, the infection can spread to other part of the organ in the body, which can be life threatening.

What Are The Organisms That Causes Pelvic Infections Disease?

Pelvic infection disease can be cause by two (2) major sexually transmitted infections such as Chlamydia and gonorrhoeal, many people don't know that they are affected until lots of damages have been done, because the symptoms are not shown at the earlier stage. This is because the symptoms are mild and people don't feel them.


What Are The Symptoms Of (PID)?

  • Fever, vagina discharge (bad smell).

  • Pain during sexual intercourses.

  • Burning pain while urinating, nausea and vomiting, abnormal bleeding and tenderness, irregular menstruate period.

  • Always week and tired.

  • Sharp pain in the belly.

  • Longer period when menstruating.

  • Heavy and painful period.
Note: one bad thing about the symptoms is that people may mistakenly relate it with appendicitis or endometriosis. So it's very important to visit the medical center for complete checks up for proper diagnosis to confirm if it is PID or not (please your doctor for that). You can go to your planned Parenthood center in your locality. The long PID untreated the worse the symptoms and more complicated.

How To Test For PID?

Swabs or fluids from the vagina or cervix would be taken and send to the laboratory to detect for bacterial infections and identify the bacteria responsible for the infection (diseases). If the test is positive then the results may be from Chlamydia, gonorrhoeal or mycoplasma.


Treatment Of Pelvic Infections Disease?

The used of strong antibiotics is prescribed by the doctors to cure the disease.

Note: Dietitian will do their role to stop reoccurrences and recommends diet rich in anti inflammatory and oxidative agents. Antibiotics and injections can only suppress the symptoms of bacterial and inactivates them but natural herbs and foods will inhibits and flush them out from the symptoms.


Who Are At Risk?
  • History of sexually transmitted disease (STD).

  • Vagina touching ( using soap to watch).

  • Having many partner sexual relationship.
 

Dietary Management Of Pelvic Infections Disease?

  • Increase intake of omega 3 fatty acids from fish 🐟 or the fish oil supplements will help reduce inflammation (sardines, herring, mackerel, tuna).

  • Increase vitamin C, A, E and the B complex rich foods, they are  very high in antioxidants, (orange 🍊, water melon 🍉 and seeds, grapes  and seeds).

  • Whole grain to boost the B vitamins.

  • Probiotic foods, such as yoghurt, fermented foods (lactobacillus protect the body).

  • Natural green tea such as lemon grass and moringa leaves.

  • Tumeric should be added to foods or taken a herbal tea, it's high in anti-inflammatory agents and it boosts the immune system to fight against disease.

  • Olive leaf should be added to meals or use as herbal tea (olive oil are high in anti-inflammatory agents.

  • Ginger should be added.

  • Garlic may act as natural broad-spectrum antibiotics, garlic has been used to inactivates wide range of infections organisms.

  • Thyme, is also reported to fight against infections.

  • Drink up to 8 - 10 glasses (cups) of water 🥛every day (cleaned filtered).

  • Eat up to 2 - 3 piece of fresh fruits every day.

  • Eat foods rich in essential fatty acids such as sea foods (snail 🐌, crab 🦀, crayfish 🦐) and fish 🎏.

  • Aim at eating healthy plant protein beans, lentils, Bambara nuts, green peas etc.

PID can affect all the parts of the reproductive system which includes inflammation of the cervix, endometrium, fallapian tubes and ovaries. All can be treated and cured if there is scarring there is no reversible in scarring.

  • Bell pepper: are excellent sources of vitamin C, which prevents inflammation.

  • Eat lots of berries 🍇🍓 especially black berries.

  • Consume citrus especially orange 🍊.

  • Sun flower seeds: such source of vitamin E.

  • Gloves and cinnamon.
 

A sample menu for management and prevention of Pelvic infection disease ( PID)

  • 5gm of tumeric. 

  • 5gm of ginger.

  • 5gm of scent leaves.

  • 5gm of cloves.

  • 2.5gm of garlic all in 500mls water(2 cups) boil for 5 mins sieve and add 10gm honey (2 table spoon).

  • 2.5gm lemon juice Drink in the morning and night to boost your immune system, Its an high antiinflammatory and oxidative agents drinks.


Please note that people with ulcer may avoid the ginger and lemon juice to prevent the triggering of the pain in ulcer of any type.
